The Best of 2013 BBLOG Edition!

Hi all! I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and a great start to the New Year. 2013 was a complicated year for me (and I’m sure for many of you as well!) and I can’t lie I’m glad to see the back of it if I’m honest.

A little catch up as to why my blog has been so empty as of late, not so much excuses more legit reasons as to why I felt too burnt out by life to actually get excited about writing for myself again. I hope that 2014 changes that, starting now!

(Mini Mexican Wave!)

The year started off promising with a great internship that really helped me grow and develop my skills and it led to meeting some fab people and great opportunities. One of which was a ‘real’ job in a new somewhat unfamiliar industry, that seemed like a good idea at the time! Interspersed between the good there is also some of the bad, most notably, Cancer.

Yeah, that horrific little blighter that seems to cast a shadow on too many families lately. I had a double whammy as both my grandfather and father were diagnosed around the same time (the same week actually, a week after I started the new job, awesome timing life…), and so, 2013 was a year of battles in more ways than one.  A lot of juggling was done, and a lot of lessons were learned both personally and professionally. 2013 taught me that I need to start trusting my gut more, when it comes to people I meet, be it friends or relationships, jobs, opportunities, and doing what’s right for me and not being so overly worried about what people are going to think of me.

Because I realised, people are going to judge you and talk about you no matter what you do, no matter what choice you make or let be made for you, and I think it’s about time we stop giving a damn!

To quote the fine wine (or is that full of wine?) that is Johnny Depp -

“Just keep moving forward and don't give a shit about what anybody thinks. Do what you have to do, for you.”

So on that note!

Let’s move forward with 2014, cuddle in from the battering wind and storms outside and revel in the
Best of…2013 #bblog edition!

First up with skincare, like most women I chop and change my routine depending on my skin needs or, being honest, if something new and shiny just takes my fancy and I have to try it. But this year I think I’m managed to keep things to a bare minimum starting with two of my favourite moisturisers starting with the cult fave - Clarins -Beauty Flash Balm.

Most people know of this if they haven’t tried it for themselves yet but if you haven’t I suggest you do as I think it’s fantastic for keeping dull winter skin bright and toned and it’s amazing just before makeup it really aids to its longevity and keeps your skin fantastically refreshed in the process! Win, Win!

In the same category is the high street find from Oilatum. Their Natural Face Cream is amazingly soft and easy on dry, dull skin and really helps eliminate any tightness that can be caused when you are prone to drier skin in the colder months. This I use all year around really, and mostly every day as it’s super light in texture too and lasts all day.

As far as facial cleansers go I have two: Burt’s Bees SoapBark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream – really, really soft and gentle on the skin and removes the majority of any makeup or residue before you can go back in with a makeup cleanser to take off the rest. Purse friendly too as it’s in and around £10 I think.

The second is a cleanser that I have been somewhat obsessed by for some time now.

Pai Camellia & Rose Hydrating Cleansing Cream. This is a really great brand in my opinion and if you haven’t checked out their range you should get on that because it’s fab! This amazing cleansing cream is just love. It’s camellia and rose qualities are super gentle on the skin and is just bursting with all the things sensitive skin loves like  Omega 3 with Vitamins A, B & E as well. This purchase came with a exfoliating muslin cloth that allows you to gently remove the cleanser and everything it sweeps off your face in a skin friendly way that won’t cause too much harsh irritation.  If you don’t fancy the feel of the muslin in this instance any warm face cloth does the trick just fine, but I have to say I will be going back to the PAI brand in the future if this is any example of how great their line really is. This is definitely on the repurchase list for sure!

Ps. Side note but I’ve been singing the praises of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil forever and a day now, and it’s really my go-to for hair and skin SOS. For hair, especially hair that’s fine genetically and may be subjected to bleaching or dying and a lot of heated tools it works really well in restoring some of the life and moisturiser back into the follicles. You can get it from any good health food shop and it would be worth adding to the pamper routine if you’re looking for something new and skin friendly also!

Makeup faves I think I covered on here in these posts but feel free to go back and have a nosy! Featuring Bourjois, Origins, and Benefit can be found on the blog already!

For hair there have been two things I couldn’t live without this year and one is the trusted GHD range of hair straighteners. My last pair the originals lasted me SIX years, now if that isn’t an epic investment I don’t know what is. They gave out for the final time earlier this year and I just knew I wouldn’t last long without them so I treated myself to a pair of the Limited Edition Coloured GHD straightens. And they’re Piiink! A metallic hot purple-pink and it came with a GHD flat brush too, if you follow my instagram you'll have seen me fangirl over these when I got them recently. Needless to say I love them; they’re fantastic for straightening and curling so it’s an all in one with a million percent less hassle and less hair tools too. Love, love, love, and did I mention they’re pink!? :D

The next one was an impulse buy for me but it’s been a surprisingly great find all the same. The Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, it’s a tiny miracle for fine haired girls like moi. Just spraying some of this into damp hair after a wash, blow drying and then adding some curl, it really helps I think. It adds ‘something’ without adding weight, which is key for me as I find some leave in products just sit in the hair and weigh me down, and with fine hair that’s really the last thing anyone needs! Bounce and texture with very little work. Definitely will be buying again!!

I narrowed it waaay down for obvious reasons, but I hope that you’re still with me either here, on Twitter or on Tumblr and if you’d like to follow me on my Instragram feel free to join the nonsense there too! What have your favourites been in 2013? Anything already making the list in 2014?!

It's beginning to look a lot like Chrisma.... okay so not yet!

Is it just me or does Christmas marketing start earlier every year? I know it's not uncommon now to see Halloween decorations and Christmas decor sharing an aisle in many shops. I think, personally, it's a bit much. Each year stores and brands get more and more aggressive in their push for Christmas sales and even though we think we're getting great bargains we're really not, it's far too calculated now, and I miss when we were little and it seemed that little bit more special!

But, my skepticism aside, I do love to indulge in the Christmas shop as much as the next girl so I guess their crazy marketing wins!  So before the big mad rush starts, I'll keep things simple this week with a couple of cosmetic try-outs that I've been using for a few weeks now.

Starting with some #Bourjois Paris Shine Edition Lippy! This is a bold raspberry red that can be layered to add more depth to the colour or worn with one application for a softer, easier to wear, everyday shade. I love the Shine Edition Lipsticks because they're like a balm, soft and smooth but not sticky like a regular lip-gloss, but it still gives your lips that lovely glossy finish all the while keeping your lips hydrated for 'up to ten hours' - or so they say. If I had to compare them to anything it would be the Rouge Coco Shine from +CHANEL . Either way, the shades are adorable and they're all available on the highstreet if you'd like to try! I got mine in +Boots UK

#Collection's Lasting Perfection Foundation - I bought this after having been a massive fan of the Lasting Perfecting Concealer for such a long time. This is for someone that is used to lighter foundations as of late, a rather thick consistency for a high street foundation. But, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's worked well on the days where I needed that little bit extra coverage, and like the formula of the concealer it really doesn't move once applied. This, in itself is both great and awful. Mainly because even though I bought the lightest shade available, it still appeared dark on me and when it set  there seemed to be a ring in parts even though I blended everything properly down my neck. So, I'm not sure about this one, but as seen on my hand it really does a great job with a small amount, in covering not only veins but redness too. If you like a more full coverage that sticks around all day this one might be worth a whirl!

Arm Candy from Jasper Jewellery!

Back to blogging with a little piece from Jasper Jewellery -  a recently launched jewellery store online based out of  Co Louth. If you like your bling to be Irish based and Swarovski Crystal obsessed not to mention being designed by up and coming designers and even graduates (yay for boosting the economy right?)  this might be somewhere for you to check out right now! I decided to order a bracelet for myself from here, as I cover a lot of statement jewellery on here at times it seems I have a slight obsession statement necklaces, so I wanted to change it up with a little arm candy! I ordered the Swarovski Crystal Peach Gold Bracelet and it's a sweet little number with sparkling crystal flowers it's dainty and delicate on the wrist for me and I like that as it's easy to wear alone for everyday or work without being too distracting but it's cute too with stacked bracelets to add more depth. They have so much to choose from, I'll admit to having a bit of a problem when it came to picking something to order, I kind of just wanted all of it.  They gift wrap all purchases and even include some sweetheart sweeties as part of their wrapping process, a nice touch!
My instagram!

Cute right? I think so! If you're looking for something that little bit different and Irish based for some Christmas stocking fillers for loved ones or friends this could be a site to add to the bookmarks!

Till next time!

Fail blogger 101

How to be a FailBlogger? Disappear from blogging life with no notice for weeks on end! Ack. I sincerely apologize for such MIA behavior on here - though I have been a little more active on Twitter & Instagram, but not so much with the blogging.

Why you ask?

Well, my life sort of flipped upside down in the middle of last month, and not the fun kind of Fresh Prince of Bel Air kind either. It's a massive tale of woe that involves two cancers, a new job and lots of adjusting and stuff like that. One we were expecting, when someone is 94 and is ill, a diagnosis like my grandfathers was to be expected. It stung and it hurt, but it was expected. My fathers' at 54 really was not expected at all and it's thrown me in all directions if I'm honest. On top of that I accepted a new job that took me out of my internship - filled with lovely people and a place where I made fab friends, to pastures new. And as anyone will tell you that's always a bit of a transition, right? I'm hoping I get used to it and get into the swing of things soon to be honest, usually I'm a dab hand at picking up skills and utilizing what I've got but I think with all the bad jujube floating around me at the minute I've almost jinxed myself and have been making a ton of stupid mistakes - no really, like beyond idiotic it would be hilarious if it wasn't so dumb... But yes! Blogging! I have a few items of interest coming up soon if you guys are interested! Some cosmetics, some skincare goodness, a little jewellery delivery from @JaspersJewellery, some Christmas gift guides maybe too! In the meantime have some cats, the internet loves cats and so do I :) xo
