The Duchess, the baby, that blow out and the dress!

Proceed with sarcasm.
Breaking News! Woman has second child! - Someone on my facebook.

Now, being Irish I can say with a certain honestly that the English Royals aren't really 'a thing' here. But of course the Ladies, Princesses, Duchesses and so forth certainly are on the world wide radar when it comes to style.

Psst - what do they DO exactly? I still struggle with this?!

Duchess Kate never fails to bring that elegant modern aesthetic to her outings and with each pregnancy she kept up the tradition of clean lines, amazing coats, and oddly sensible but rather normal shoes.

Let's talk about that dress. As with little George, Kate chose a custom made Jenny Packham dress - this time deviating from the Diana tribute and going with a more ... that table cloth your gran had when you were a kid look. No? I mean it's very cute it really is but it still resembles a table cloth to me. Teaming that with William's overly large 70's collared shirt and receding hairline and it feels very, casual. And honestly, slap an instagram filter on it and it may as well be 1979.

Seriously though, you birthed a Princess, am I alone in thinking there should be diamonds for something like that?

I'm joking of course, kind of. But this new generation of Royals are super casual, they want you to know that. They shop in Tesco, they recycle clothes, they announce their little princesses via twitter just like whatsherface from over the road that had a kid once. They are just like us commoners.
Except not really.
Not at all.
And there should be diamonds.

(c) Alan Davidson / The Daily Mail - No infringement.

Forgetting about the diamonds for a second, let's cut the woman some serious slack. She just birthed a human eight hours before and there she was being paraded in front of the world - literally - and the expectations were high.

Such nonsense really though isn't it. Having spoken to friends who've had children they will safely tell me that what she does - what the world expects so soon after such a huge event in a woman's life - is nothing short of a nightmare. Some struggle to even have the energy to brush their hair, never mind find the heels and the smiles to greet the world's press.

It may help to have Royal money and a team of experts. Ah, those experts, wouldn't it be great to have them around on the daily! Beyond that, let's take a look at some more commoner friendly Duchess Duds and Blow Out (that's a blow-dry to you and me) secrets!

The sweet yellow buttercup pattered (was someone watching Princess Bride while pregnant?!) custom Jenny Packham was both post-natal perfect and early summer appropriate.

"Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their baby daughter," the designer wrote on her Twitter & Instagram. "The Duchess wears a bespoke silk shift dress with buttercup print. JP x"
If you can't drop four grand for a custom Jenny Packham, dahling, then we must have some alternatives? Of course we must! Feat:  +River Island  +ASOS  +Little Mistress

With her bouncing baby girl came the bouncing Cambridge Curls, and a few secrets to that voluminous kind of blow dry can be yours in a few simple steps!

Step1: Apply a thickening lotion or oil to the hair and work thoroughly through with a wide-tooth comb.

Step2. Always work from the bottom layers up when blow-drying your hair—  remember to pin the top portion as this helps you better see what you're doing.

Step3. Grab your hair at the roots and run the medium sized round brush down strands to avoid frizz, moving the blow-dryer with it as you go along. Make sure to keep the point of the nozzle downward.

Step4. Heat defense spray!!

Step5. smooth out your hairline by facing that section away from your face, fully encase the hair here around the round brush and turn as you go.

Step6. Once your hair has completely dried, be sure to wrap the curls around your fingers while it's still warm to create a pin curl and pin until cooled.

Step7. Spray with a secure hold hairspray and shine spray if desired.

Step 8. Go find that crown!

Okay so step eight is optional! But still, have fun recreating the look!

Til next time!

Star Style Crush! Lizzie Olsen!

Now you know if you follow my tumblr blog of EIC that Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Olsen, her ever changing haircape of awesome, and her big bright smile feature heavily when I reblog celeb style posts. I love her care free somewhat quirky off duty style, and her more polished daring red carpet style just as much.  As the 'other Olsen' for the longest time, it's been nice to see her come into her own and out of the shadow of her billionaire twin sisters and start doing it for herself. She's chosen more indie roles and has yet to take on a real heavy mainstream project, but that doesn't stop the style mags and indie cult fashion sites from sitting up and taking notice of her style choices.

Myself included.

Her love of quirky floppy hats and insanely pretty coats caught my eye, as did her hair I won't lie. I miss being blonde but sadly my hair can't take the wear and tear not to mention the upkeep it takes to remain a ~natural blonde~. So, I live vicariously through my favorite celebs and see how they go about styling and maintaining their envious locks.

In everything from the amazingly expensive The Row (her sister's brand) to H&M to JBrand this girl rocks it all and with such ease that it looks and feels so natural to her sense of personality, where other actresses our age tend to over do it or rely to heavily on a stylist to create their style... there's a sense that Lizzie Olsen is true to herself and what suits her. Of course I'm sure there is a stylist involved for the bigger events but even then she rarely hits a bum note.

From Tomboy to Chanel chic, but all with an underlying down to earth that is sorely missed in young Hollywood lately.  Needless to say I love her choices!

Primark A/W 2013 Sneak Peek!

Having spotted a few A/W collection online I thought I'd pick out just a few key pieces that I just might have to pick up for the new fashion season. I love my bargain buys, while I do splurge on the higher end stuff from time to time, I like nothing better than a accessible trend and Primark/Penny's allows us recessionistas to do just that!
I can't pass up an bag like this with a chain like that. These types of bags are amazing for everyday, or heading out on walks where you just need some cash and your phone. Light weight and still stylish. Come to me!

What can I say, I'm a sucker for a statement necklace as you well know by now. Costume Jewellery is fab in my book and what better way to experiment with styles than with stunning budget buys like this for under £10

Timeless Wardrobe Alert! The Mac never goes out of style and for shorties like me this cropped version is just perfection! I love the coloring and the contrast buttons as well as the sleeve details

Now I know you're seeing the fringe and wondering if I've fallen down, but no. I'm not a massive fan of fringe but here it seems more understated and less yeeehaw you know? So that's a plus. Besides, my hunt for flat stylish boots is never ending so there's also that!!

Diet Coke with Belfast Fashion Week Design Awards - Last call!

Anyone that knows me knows that I have a bit of a @DietCoke addiction. You see, I'm a weird Irish person in that I hate tea, I hate coffee (though, love the smell) and generally avoid hot drinks in general if I can help it (Starbucks hot choc in winter not withstanding of course). So my drink of choice is either ice water or forever faithful, Diet Coke. So, when I heard on twitter for the BFW peeps about the Diet Coke Design award and all that it offered the winner I felt the need to share it with you guys. Basically,  The Diet Coke Design Award is in conjunction with Belfast FASHIONWEEK and is back for 2013 and there’s only a short space of time left to enter!

This year, in celebration of Diet Coke’s 30th anniversary, they're looking for entrants to design a unique garment inspired by the past 30 years of fashion i.e. ‘80s, ‘90s or ‘00s. Three shortlisted finalists will have their design created by Una Rodden and each will be showcased on the A/W Belfast FASHIONWEEK catwalk.

The winning design will be announced at Fashionweek by a team of judges with the winner receiving a place on a highly coveted fashion course at the London School of Fashion including flights and accommodation as well as a photoshoot with fashion photographer Khara Pringle.

To enter, download an application form and competition brief from

I think this is a fantastic opportunity for the creative genius running around that could benefit massively from this. I unfortunately can't draw a straight line, but I could write you a book if you'd like? For those of you that can design and are looking for a challenge, you have until Sep13th to enter! So get cracking!

Blogity bits and bobs!

Hey Peeps,

Just a few random things relating to the blog - firstly a few of the #FABB girls have nominated me for the Liebester Award and as such they leave questions for each of their nominees to answer - basically to get to know everyone a little bit better! And I've been nominated for the @BlogAwardsIreland in the Beauty & Fashion category which is sweet as anything, so thank you! I have no such ideas that I'll even get shortlisted but this is pretty cool in itself as I never find myself on any of these lists or anything!

First up, from the lovely Bex over at  Bexberry we have her questions:

Q1: Why did you start your blog

A1: I started this over on Tumblr a little while ago now, basically as somewhere to file away my obsession with beauty, makeup, fashion and all things just a little bit glam. A couple of years later, I have a fully blown Tumblr addiction. So then I decided to try and tidy things up a little more by doing reviews of things I've stumbled upon over on another platform, and here's where I ended up!

Q2: How long have you been blogging, and what do you think makes a good blog?

I used to have a LiveJournal which was more personal rants and rambles more than specifically aimed ones like on here, so all in all about six or so years. Beauty blogging since 2010 though. A good blog is one that's from a real p.o.v and it's real thoughts not ones you know are paid for (and you know, you know?) I think a good blog is a place that gives you something you can relate to but also aspire to if that makes sense.

Q3: What is one beauty product you won't leave the house without?

Tough one! I'd say at this point a great moisturizer!

Q4: What is your must have fashion staple?
Scarves! I love scarves, I must own at least 30 at this point. They jazz up even the most boring of outfits and since this is Ireland we get use of thin, thick and snood ones almost all year around. If not that then a statement necklace for the same reasons!

Q5: Where are you from?
Born in Dublin, Raised in bouncing between Derry and Donegal. :)

Q6: If someone where to give you a gift card to ANY store, which store would it be?

Hmmm. Anywhere at all? Chanel! Or Mulberry. On a more realistic scale, somewhere like +Debenhams  or @SpaceNK to feed the bblog addictions of course lol!

Q7: What is your holy grail beauty product/s?
Oh God! I would say +BourjoisUK Healthy Mix is one that never fails to do what it says on the tin and I've raved about it a lot. Another is +mac makeup Prep&Prime for primer, and #Chanel Coco Rouge Shine for every day lippie (fave shade is 'boy) I'll stop there or we'll be here all night!

Q8: What makes you laugh until you a.cry or b.snort?

Most things to be honest, I'm terrible at keeping my emotions in check! I cry at tv shows at the drop of a hat, and I laugh myself sick at stupid things like cat gifs or Billy Connolly on the regular.

Q9: What is your guilty pleasure?
Nothing that gives you pleasure should make you feel guilty ;) But again, being the geek that I am most things I love tend to get side-eyed by the 'normal' folks in my life. I love sci-fi tv shows or shows like Supernatural and Trueblood... Of course I watch for the plot alone and not at ALL the hot men... ahem. No of course not.

Q10: If you could have one super power, what would it be?
Is Teleporting a superpower? If not, that'd be handy. I hate traveling anywhere. I love getting there but hate the travel aspect of having to get there lol!

Q11: Can you name all of the Dwarfs from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? NO CHEATING!!
Erm. Dopy, Doc, Sleepy, Grumpy... errrrrm... Bashful... Sneezy? And I can't remember the rest! Oops!

Thanks hun! Fun questions!!!

Then from Sweet Carolyn (bad pun? good song? good pun, bad song? who knows!) over at ForeverScarlett we have her questions!

  1. Best book you’ve read recently?
Grace Coddington's Memoir. I've been fascinated by her for years and was so glad to read more about her from her own pov. She's a legend with a heart and that's amazing.  I write more than I read and hope to some day work up the nerve to publish!
  1. Beauty product you can’t live without?
  1. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
Everywhere! But, failing that I'd love to explore Western Europe a little more, bit by bit hopefully I will and failing that, Hawaii. I've no idea why other than it looks like paradise on earth!
  1. Favourite item in your wardrobe?
Ooooh tricky. For winter it's my red military coat and for 'summer' or that part of the year where we see a bit of the sun it's my Tory Birch tan sandals.
  1. Why did you first start blogging?
On and off on various different platforms for a long time now, nerdgirl that I am. But beauty blogging on here not even a year, and before that EIC was on tumblr since 2010 I believe!
  1. Favourite style icon?
I have a few modern ones ranging from Lauren Conrad (never gets it wrong - also hair cape envy!) Olivia Palermo - Even though I'm not sure what exactly she 'does' for a living other than wear clothes and get coffee, but what a life! lol! I love mostly finding bloggers that do their own touch on trends and work it in a wearable way, it makes it much more real than the rakes down the runway.
  1. Best tip for blogging success?
I wish I knew! Haha! No, I have no idea, some blogs that I see are super basic and a little boring but somehow have a zillion followers and people are obsessed, but then ones I see that are a little different and quirky and real hardly have any so it's really hard to know!

Best fashion/beauty advice you ever received?

Your eyebrows are sisters not twins and to find a good tailor for someone as short as me it will be so necessary.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I hope to be back living in a city of some kind, no idea where the tide will take me but I like city life since I am a country girl raised lol, other than that hopefully in a job I like doing that I'm good at making a somewhat decent living and traveling a little more than I do now! You know, nothing bad but who knows! Gimme that crystal ball!

Best concert you’ve ever been to?

A friend and I did Mumford&Sons last Christmas VIP in Belfast. It was utterly amazeballs.

Favourite TV character?

Oooh gurl, we could be here all day! lol! *Puts on nerdgirl hat*

Great Questions!!! xoxo

From one my fave Derry Redheads I also have these from The Red Dutchess!

 1. What's your favourite quote and why?
Be who you are because those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter!

2. If you think you were alive in a past live, who were you?

I think this all the time actually. Mostly it's feelings I get in old places and things like that, it's probably dumb as hell but it's a strong feeling constantly! I have no idea who I was, I'd like to think I was someone that did something good and looked fab in her corset while doing so but knowing my luck I was probably some unfortunate housemaid or something lol!

3. What matters most to you in this world, be it a value, principle or possession?
That's a complicated one! We all have different values and place different value on different things based on our principle beliefs or ideals so... I'd argue value and principle of things would rate higher than the possession of them because ultimately true possession isn't really possible long term. <--How much of an ejit do I sound right now?! ;) #ramble

4. If stranded on an Island with 5 famous people who would they be, and why?
Tom Hanks for his raft buildings skills, Alexander Skarsgard for his ... everything. An Olympic rower of some kind lol, Bear Grylls so he could teach us to survive if Tom's building skills fail us, annnd someone like Gordon Ramsay for the lawls.

5. What's your best physical feature and best trait as a person?
Hmm. I'll go with the boobs, sure why not lol. And as for a trait, I don't know I think I try to be a decent person, and I like helping people and working hard to do that. So maybe that? That or my non stop sarcasm skills, forever getting me into bother!

Vichy Essentielles Foaming Facial Cleanser Review!

The hunt for the perfect skincare routine continues, it's a hunt that may never end, but it's fun to search right? This month I've been dipping my toes in the #Vichy #skincare pool, having heard amazing things about this brand I decided it was time to give it a go. I started with the Essentielles Foaming Facial Cleanser. Since I'm looking to save time during the week where my skincare routine is concerned the idea of a foaming face wash that breaks down the majority of my makeup on the first application sounded good.

They say -  Essentielles, with rose polyphenol, glycerin,Vichy Thermal Spa Water. It protects, hydrates and soothes your skin to give you that healthy and radiant glow!
It's Paraben-free (yay), hypoallergenic and previously tested on sensitive skin under dermatological control before marketed. The rose element teamed with the other ingredients give it a soothing quality that I love and is somewhat hard to achieve in drugstore/high street available skincare, so this was pleasing to say the least. I've been using it for a little over six weeks as the first step in my week night routine and I really like that it's a time saver that leaves my skin soft without much reaction from my sensitive skin. It's also made me want to try out the rest of the Essentielles range to see if I have as good an experience with those items as I had with this.
You can pick up Vichy products online & at most pharmacies!

Tom Ford's Cherry Lush Lipstick Review!

I haven't blogged in almost a month, and that's seriously shameful. But, I do have several excuses ...ahem, reasons.

Main one was we bid fair well to my little pink Dell, and I had to wait before I could properly replace her. Sadly, she died with all my photos for what I had planned to blog inside her and stupidly, they weren't backed up elsewhere! Augh, right? Anyway, I figured I should get a move on as I have a load of different bits and bobs that I've been trying out as I feed my never ending and ever debilitating shopping addiction! First up, we have my super splurge in June, and that was my first #TomFord Lipstick.

Cherry Lush

I've always pondered on the Tom Ford line of cosmetics but never really attempted to try anything, I think that might have to change to be honest. This is just love, I love her I love Cherry and all her lush-ness. I took a badly lit +Instagram with my phone and it appears a lot more 'red-red' in that than it is in real life, but still, I like all the reds either way.
Given that I love my high-street brands, and am forever mixing and matching, I think it's only fair that a girl treats herself to some of the more quote - unquote- higher end things every now and then, right? We deserve it, right?
Well,  I think we do girls, we work hard, we go through a lot and at the end of the day if something makes you happy and you can have it, I say why the hell not!

This isn't just a way for me to talk myself out of buyers remorse from now on you know... no! It's not...

(It so is, but eh?!)

Back to Cherry! She's a bit of a babe, seen here on the other babe, the ageless Winona!

They say :

Sounds fab, right? Well, it kind of is, right up there with the +CHANEL Coco Shine lipsticks this one is super smooth and really hydrating (and didn't dry out my lips like I sort of expect most lipsticks to do no matter what they say!) and the pigment is just delish, teamed with a similar toned lip pencil you really have a great dramatic red lip colour but in a tone that's more .... night at the theater rather than say ... scary clown woman. That's never a bad thing, right? ;)

I'll definately be having a poke around the Tom Ford section's of my favourite dealers... I mean 'beauty counters' from now on!

Love it.

Don't forget the +Giveaway Promote that I have going ends in a couple of days see more here! +New Look

Hair Post!

It seems that we're all trying to grow out our hair lately, even if we're brave enough to go for the crop we sort of regret it ten minutes later and then spend months, or years(!!) wishing and waiting for our locks to come back. If like me, you've dyed your hair or even bleached it for years (ahem, guilty!) then it's probably a little bit sad, damaged and thirsty. I've been trying just about everything to improve my hair since I caved and went back to brunette last year. Oils, serums, vitamins, 'miracle' products, you name it, I've given it a go. I think I'm on a good curve with my hair at the moment though, having come to terms with my genetically fine hair (sadly not much I can do for it on that front, thanks mum's side of the family!) but I have managed to get her to grow, and the life seems to be back and with that comes natural shine and bounce.

In the past nine months I'd say I've managed a good five - six inches of healthy growth hair wise which isn't amazing but considering for years my hair didn't grow past my chin, I'd say it's fine. The average person's hair grows a quarter an inch a month, but with damage and heat styling most of us have breakage etc so it doesn't grow as long as it should time wise.  My hair has gone from just at chin level, to ...boob level since I've been brunette, not bad going in my book!

Healthy hair tips!

Drink lots of water- I know, I know, it's what everyone says for everything, but hey, they're not wrong. We're made up of a lot of water, us humans, and we need to replenish to keep us all lovely and hydrated. Our skin, hair and nails are made of the same stuff, and it's important to keep it watered. View your body like a lovely rose garden, to keep them roses pretty you have to look after them right?
(I'm bad with metaphors, sorry!)

Take prenatal vitamins - Even if you're not 'prenatal' give them a go. Most do contain your RDA of biotin, iron and folic acid which is fab for healthy hair growth.

If not prenatal try the types designed for your hair, nails and skin - I've been taking Perfectil but honestly the cheaper brands from the likes of #Boots are just as good and contain the exact same ingredients only in a different packaging.  Nuts and eggs should also be a part of your diet for their benefits/vitamins.

Indulge in a scalp massage - It's meant to increase the blood flow to your roots, and it's relaxing as anything. They even sell those little self-scalp-massage-y things now (great technical term there, right?) Anyway, these things that kinda look like spiders  -

If that's not your thing, if you have access to a great spa or beauty salon, make sure to pay them a visit and ask for a deep scalp massage next time you get your hair done. You won't regret it.

Use hair oils - Whether it's Argan, Moroccan, Coconut, Olive... whatever you fancy, use it. What I do is, because of my fine hair, I use a few pea size amounts on the ends of my hair after I wash it. Leave it to dry naturally for as long as I can before blow drying it. The difference with and without are like night and day, I love it. It leaves my hair silky and smooth but doesn't weigh it down at all. Don't fear the oil!

Another wee tip from me would be, try and keep the heat to a minimum and if you need to straighten or curl every day invest in a decent heat protect spray!

Hope this keeps your hair happy!

Until next time!

Ps. Don't forget the #Giveaway I have going at the moment! It's a fab dress!
