Debenhams Foyleside Beauty Night!

A Beauty Haul in a Beauty Hall!
Hi!
The beautiful view of the Foyle & the Peace Bridge from our meeting spot!
Last night I had the pleasure of attending a local shopping favourite of mine, Debenhams - Foyleside in Derry City for the relaunch of their new and improved (and sparkly and amazing, let's be real here,) Beauty Hall.  And let me tell you, it was fantastic!

Cupcakes & The Craic
For years +Debenhams , and particularly their beauty floor has been the go-to place for all my cosmetic needs and wants. Recently, with the much anticipated arrival of +MAC Cosmetics (arrived July 17th!) the people at Debenhams-Derry decided that a complete overhaul was called for, and the makeup makeover took place.

The new Beauty Hall features high end cosmetic brands such as Chanel, Urban Decay, Bare Minerals, Dior, Estee Lauder, Clarins, Lancome and Benefit, and of course, now, MAC!

Sparkle and shimmer from UD's counter + some goodies from the amazing gift bags given!

J'adore <3
The night started off with the #BeautyBloggers being greeted by the lovely PR guru Laura and a select few of the fantastic staff from the store, where they provided us with bubbly, cupcakes, and the buzz about what we'd see on the tour of the over hauled beauty hall. It was also brilliant to get a little catch up with so many of the #FABB ladies from Belfast / around NI that I rarely get the chance to see since all our events are far flung for me where as this was, finally, local! So, getting to see them and to meet some new faces that are blogging out of Derry and the North West is just great!

UD blush heaven!
Swoot Swoo +MAC Cosmetics new makeup vanities

We were then walked through the various counters that are available in Debs-Derry and some of the new services they provide. You know, on top of being The Makeup Mecca of the North West now (as dubbed by me, but it seriously is I swear!).

How cute is this pick N mix from +Clarins ???

At +Benefit Cosmetics we were talked through their newest service in-store waxing! They have a pretty little set up of a private room (Benefit-ed out to the max, you'll even have your own Bene-towels and robes!). This is a great service for anyone on the go, you have a one stop shop - literally - for any necessary waxing, a quick facial, and a professionally applied makeup application all without stepping outside! Here for this! Right?

The Benefit ladies on hand to show us all their new products! So lovely!

Wax on, Wax off!

Hello again!
The staff on the night could not have been more welcoming or helpful, or generous come to that as we all received multiple gift bags with an array of goodies from the floor. Ranging from Gucci perfumes, Benefit makeup and skincare (the new eye-primer BB cream that I'll be sure to review on here soon!) Urban Decay eye-shadows and blush samples, Clairns skincare perfect plane sized too! Some sweet Origins skin mask and serum samples and a very sleek +Dolce & Gabbana wallet - perfect as a makeup pouch or as I plan to use it, as a wallet for my travel documents and passport when I fly to New York in a few weeks! All to name a few! It was like Christmas, as it was teamed up with a generous £50 voucher for the Beauty Hall - that I didn't have time to spend on the night but as it's local I'll be sure to be back - maybe close to my birthday next month to treat myself!

Such an education over at +Clinique UK !

Big +Origins fan so sampling their newest range is exciting! Love the pale pink too, very sweet.

Urban Decay Makeup Artist at work! <3

Derry already has so much to offer in terms of culture and history that it's wonderful to see from a local perspective, the investments continuing to be made by big companies such as the new addition of MAC and the expansion of already successful businesses such as +Debenhams that employ and empower so many.

+Benefit Cosmetics UK & Ireland goodies <3

We need a bigger backdrop! :o

So if you haven't already, you definitely should pop in, see the fab staff and treat yourself! There is literally so much to choose from, if you could have spent a day in there before, you could spend a week in there now!

Thanks for reading!

Beauty Sleep!

As someone who regularly battles with insomnia the video from +Bensons for Beds via +Marie Claire  was somewhat enlightening, and in equal measure, a little terrifying.

She says as she writes this blog post at basically 3am.

What is the point, I thought, suddenly, of faffing about with skincare and makeup to keep oneself fresh as a daisy, if the daisy is suffering massively because of my lack of sleep! Lack of sleep can be brought on by a number of things - stress, too much caffeine, uncomfortable bed, you name it there's probably something you're doing or thinking that's stopping you (and me, God, so me) from catching those much needed 40 winks!

Stress has got to be my number one, and 'eliminating stress' while often the gospel according to everyone ever, is, sadly, easier said than done. But, we try our best. We make our beds and bedrooms a fluffy, happy, serene place to snooze, we try and turn off the TV at a reasonable hour (laptops are harder, damn you internet!) we take hot baths, we attempt it all!

Even cutting down on our beloved caffeine, which, honestly, I'm going through withdrawals after a day and a half, I should be awarded sleep for my lack of diet coke, right?

Wrong, just a massive never ending headache unfortunately. So I cave. But, one tin a day won't kill me, right?

Well... that's another topic altogether! But definitely attempt to keep yourself as hydrated as possible, it really does help! Even if water can be sometimes just ugh,

But, back to the topic at hand... the test!

So, the video itself takes these women on day one after a proper night's sleep, and examine their skin in excruciating detail (brave, ladies, so brave!) and then, almost a week of under-sleeping if you will, they come back and do the same thing, and the results are compared.

It's a little scary how much change in a person's skin can appear in such a short period of time.

So to prepare for the battle once more, there are a few things that I've just been dying to try, just to see for myself if they could work for me.

First up is the gorgeous and sweet smelling Lavender Eye-Mask as rec'd by the lovely +Lisa Eldridge  via +BEAUTY BAY from The Holistic Silk eye mask.

Secondly we have the  This Works With Sleep Comes Beauty Hero Duo that I've heard nothing but amazing things about, and feel like, yeah, this might do something!

Besides, even if the spray fell flat, the primer has to be a plus, right?

As I normally do, if all else fails reach for my best eye cream (currently obsessed with the +Origins ginzing eye cream!) prep my skin the best I can and keep my makeup routine in the lanes of 'simple!' 'fresh!' 'wide eyed' and 'flushed' regions before going about my day.

My fresh-face-despite-three-hours-sleep go to is usually the following

+Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream - I have a tiny sample size of this and I can't wait to get a full size!

+BourjoisFrance CC Cream in the shade IVORY

My +AnastasiaBeverlyHills Brow Pomade, this item is so portable and I adore it for a defined brow. Though, for long distance travel I wager the pencil is probably your best best!

Finished off with a flush to the cheeks and lips with two subtle but uplifting shades of blush and lippie! With my +MAC Cosmetics creme blend blush in 'Unlimited' and their long-wear pro lip creme in 'overtime', that I'm almost out of and it's sold out! But they both do a great job of finishing p the fresh face attempts no matter how tired I am!

MAC 'unlimited'
What are some of your go-to items or tricks for when you can't get those much needed ZZs?!

Instagram Indulging, January hauls & Upcoming Beauty Banter!

If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen a few updates from me this month. Including how I started off 2015 with a clean slate blog wise, I gave it a bit of a make under, stripping things back to basics. Back to my favored aesthetic of minimalist and negative space, leaving breathing room for more focus on my posts rather than my side projects! I hope you like it ;)

This month has also been a tad hectic in real life, but one that has left me with a bit of a obsession with my phone and that little photo app. Anyone else suffering from a ‘gram addiction? I never used to, in fact up until recently it was a sporadic occurrence for me to spend much time on Instagram at all, beyond the mandatory check in once a day. Lately though I’ve found myself loving it, finding the littlest things worth a heart or two, finding amazing new followers and a place for chit chat about my January #hauls!

Hashtag #Scaredtocheckmybankaccount??

I have officially put myself on a shopping ban though, until at least the end of next month. As realistically, there is nothing I really ‘need’ cosmetic or skincare wise that hasn’t been taken care of by Christmas gifts, or the sales. But the good news is I have a ton of new items available for reviews in the coming days. Including +AnastasiaBeverlyHills +Origins +MAC Cosmetics & more!

See my initial pics via my Instagram!!

Needless to say that’s enough right?

Is it ever enough? Is this where we fall into a consumerism crisis of conscience? As well as an over use of alliteration? Hm. Maybe!

I have been a fan of +Origins  for a couple of years now, but never really dived in to the brand the way I wanted to. I think I solved that with the purchase of their ‘mini’ set. A fantastic offer from +House of Fraser  Belfast that is allowing me to try out all their most popular goodies, without the commitment of a full size product. So far, I am loving them all, and I will have a more in-depth review coming soon. Also within my holiday haul was the new +Clarins UK Concealer, and while their shades are limited so far, being super pale sometimes pays off, as I fit their shade 1 almost perfectly. It’s a smooth application of liquid concealer, that even on the first and second application, the results are pretty great and it's something I want to review properly soon as well!

Also, after discovering my +BourjoisFrance addiction (there is no other name for it at this point let's be real) when I was organising my makeup the other day it was suggested via Instagram that I do a Brand Focus post. It was so inspiring to me because it really is a brand I have loved and championed for years now.So, that should be coming up so and I'm super excited about going in dept on one of my favourite high-street skincare and makeup  brands!
Oops??
I hope to see and hear from you all soon in the coming weeks, much more beauty banter to come well in to 2015

Fall/Winter Wardrobe Must-Haves Part 1

Very Cranberry - Essie!

Cranberry Goodness!

More than just a sauce for that Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey, the shade of the 2014/15 winter season is one that I personally can’t get enough of! Crowding the catwalks at Paris and Milan Fashion Week, we can see that it’s not a trend we’re going to escape easily. Personally, I love autumn /winter more so than spring/summer because I get to embrace my two fashion loves – dark colours and scarves without judgement! (But really, I live in Ireland I could rock the dark all year around and it would be fine, it rains every other day anyway!) This year I’m all about the plums, cranberries and uber rich jewel tones!

From scarves and coats to jumpsuits, nails and skirts it's clear I'm not the only one loving this trend!

Over sized scarf from ACNE

To +Primark online and +ASOS the rich hues are everywhere for every shape, size, and mindset!

If you’re too shy to go full on with your clothes then the safer bet lies within your accessories and makeup choices.Whether it’s a deep royal purple eye, a flashy emerald green, or bold ruby lips, the options to be bold in winter is always there. The days are darker, so shall be our lips! Right? Eh, well, maybe

For an everyday look, depending on your workplace, the bold makeup looks above might not be the best of ideas – I mean unless funny looks and ‘ooh that one… where does she think she’s at!’ conversations are your thing, in that case, fire away! But, on the off chance that it’s a tad more conservative, the accessory option is always a good one.

Keeping it simple like Scarlett J here, is an acceptable middle ground.

For a bolder lip look - keep the eyes and cheeks fresh but focus on a dark berry or plum shade - Mac Lush Life is just one perfect example!

Strong eyes but barely there lips and cheeks can work easily without becoming too-much and overpowering your face.

Pack on the gold shimmer on top of a black matt base for this sultry glam look!
You can keep the face neutral all for one area, lips or eyes. In Scarlett's case she's chosen a pretty mauve shadow, with a barely there cheek and pinky fresh lip. Compared with the model to the left, choosing a packed on gold shimmer against a black matted down look with a nude pink lip to pair things down making the eyes the focus of the look. The options and looks are endless, and isn't that just how we like it?

Till next time,

Laura

Spring / Summer blush edit!

Spring has sprung... at least for the rest of the world I hear it has, for Ireland, as per usual, not so much springing as pouring! But at least one thing springs eternal and that's hope, hope that someday soon the sun remembers our tiny little isle and comes for a visit. In the vain of hope we shop! We  shop for spring dresses and shoes, and of course as a beauty blogger, we shop for makeup all with that lovely fresh, new, lively spring feeling. Gone are the dark shades we embraced in winter, the deep berry tones, the vixen reds, and in with the corals, pinks and highlights.
Oh, and bronzer too. Can't forget the bronzer after months in the dark, can we? We don't want to scare small children when the sun does start to shine again and people can see our face more clearly, so bronzer is a must! My Spring/Summer edit is as follows!

MUA Cream Blush Perfection in the shade  - Bonne Mine
MAC powder blush in the shade - Dame
Bourjois Délice de Poudre
MUA Undress Your Skin - Shimmer Highlighter
Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in the shade 06

If you guys follow me on Instagram you'll have already seen the MUA purchases and the Bourjois too I think, when I picked them up a couple of weeks back. I have to say I really do love MUA, for such a cheap as chips price range the actual range of products and how they work is amazing. Usually it's one of those things with makeup, you get what you pay for and the cheaper end products are usually a bit... you know... meh? But so far with the MUA bits I've tried, I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm a little guilty of never really straying that far from the spring edit all year around. Mainly because shades like this really do bring the face to life - that forever youthful, walk-in-fresh-air look we're all after all the time is usually just a blend away if you choose the right shade for your skin tone. Being pale it's easy for me to gravitate towards the lighter shades of pink and coral to get that colour back in my cheeks while still appearing natural. I love Spring and Summer for those excuses alone, that and the 'all natural' look in makeup becomes the way of life because we just want to make the most of the good weather and our plans don't really fit into spending more than ten minutes painting our faces, right?

The MAC - Dame is one of the few powder blushes I own, and I've had it for about a year now (can you tell by how ever-so-slightly grubby it looks? Sorry!) and it's definitely one of the ones I go to for that 'flush' of life on the apples of my cheeks with minimal face and eye makeup, it works wonders for a powder - even on my dry / dehydrated skin!

The full review on the Dream Touch Blush can be found here.

+BourjoisUK Blush and Bronzer I picked up from @BootsUK a couple of weeks ago now, on a whim as you do and for me this is the first coral shade I've gone for in a long time - with the Bonne Mine - and I have to say I really do love it. The little pots that have been around since the 1800s really do deserve their longevity in terms of great pigment, great application (complete with tiny little oval shaped application brush) and just a great price point in general. The bronzer is very pigmented too for a highstreet brand which I found surprising. I have to go a little easier on this one than I might do with say my Urban Decay baked bronzer, as I said it's mostly because of how pale I am and I don't want to look too 'over done' on a daily basis. It does however make a fantastic contour colour for me, and I've been taking advantage of that a lot in the past couple of weeks. Be careful with contouring though, if it's just minimal every day makeup you're used to doing, with that you can escalate quickly from subtle contour to ... Kim Kardasian with just a sweep of a brush. So pay attention when doing that!

The two MUA products I picked up ( I also picked up a contour eyebrow pencil too which I might do a full review on if you guys are interested?) I picked up the cream blush because, well, I'm a sucker for creme / cream blushes in general and for the price points (I think it was less than a fiver for each product, which I mean, come on! How could you not?) and I fancied giving them a go. So far I find the creme/ cream blush to be super blendable, however it doesn't really have very much staying power throughout the day. I guess that's to be expected, there has to be some drawbacks to it being such an affordable product, but for the price really, would you mind reapplying once or twice through the work day for what you've paid for your wee blush? I know I don't mind! I wear it, and then dot the highlighter over the top.

Now, the @MUA highlighter is the first time in a long time that I've deviated from my usual (Benefit - Highbeam) mostly because nothing really lived up to that - and it was a creme/creamy texture too. But! This caught my eye and I'm so glad it did. For £2 I think it was? It's a really great product I've gotten so many compliments on my new glow and my healthy look since wearing this on a daily basis and I was so pleased because it literally took two seconds to apply and that - unlike the blush- really did I found have good staying power throughout the day.

Big thumbs up on all my new buys - and some old ones too! What's your Spring / Summer Blush edit? Sound off below or follow me :
