Back to Blonde & Thursday Faves!

Happy almost Weekend everyone! I hope the last week in Jan has been going good! It's been all go here at EIC! I'm in the middle of planning a wedding with one of my oldest friends, and I honestly never knew how much WORK it was for one day! Insane! Glad I'm not the bride just yet! ;)

#NewHair! I decided this week to take the plunge and go back to blonde again. It's been over three years since I've been this bright and I have to say, I love it! Even though it's that much more difficult to maintain, and I was rocking the dip-dye and then the baylayage look for some time, I was feeling brave and wanted to be brighter! Have you taken the hair plunge lately? If so how did it turn out for YOU?!  A huge thank you to CM Hair for her work on my do!!

#Longhair kinda DO care :D xo

Thursday Faves!!

Two trusted favourites and some newbies for this week in details. I'm never far from my +BourjoisFrance  foundation - one of my all time holy grail products with the Healthy Mix foundation. And my go-to scent recently  from +Juicy Couture  that just gives that fresh spring time smell that is just what is needed for the still-too-dreary Jan days!

The newbies are in the form of the +MAKE UP FOR EVER   Artist plexi-gloss in 202. I love this for shine and texture but there is a slight smell that reminds me of petrol and that's really not nice at all. But the form of the gloss makes up for the scents, but only just.   The two skincare/makeup items are my new +Lancome USA  Hydra-Zen eye cream and the +Clarins  Rouge Eclat in No.13 Woodrose, a really soft, wearable dusky rose that is perfect for every day wear without appearing over done.

Until next time,

Debenhams Foyleside Beauty Night!

A Beauty Haul in a Beauty Hall!
Hi!
The beautiful view of the Foyle & the Peace Bridge from our meeting spot!
Last night I had the pleasure of attending a local shopping favourite of mine, Debenhams - Foyleside in Derry City for the relaunch of their new and improved (and sparkly and amazing, let's be real here,) Beauty Hall.  And let me tell you, it was fantastic!

Cupcakes & The Craic
For years +Debenhams , and particularly their beauty floor has been the go-to place for all my cosmetic needs and wants. Recently, with the much anticipated arrival of +MAC Cosmetics (arrived July 17th!) the people at Debenhams-Derry decided that a complete overhaul was called for, and the makeup makeover took place.

The new Beauty Hall features high end cosmetic brands such as Chanel, Urban Decay, Bare Minerals, Dior, Estee Lauder, Clarins, Lancome and Benefit, and of course, now, MAC!

Sparkle and shimmer from UD's counter + some goodies from the amazing gift bags given!

J'adore <3
The night started off with the #BeautyBloggers being greeted by the lovely PR guru Laura and a select few of the fantastic staff from the store, where they provided us with bubbly, cupcakes, and the buzz about what we'd see on the tour of the over hauled beauty hall. It was also brilliant to get a little catch up with so many of the #FABB ladies from Belfast / around NI that I rarely get the chance to see since all our events are far flung for me where as this was, finally, local! So, getting to see them and to meet some new faces that are blogging out of Derry and the North West is just great!

UD blush heaven!
Swoot Swoo +MAC Cosmetics new makeup vanities

We were then walked through the various counters that are available in Debs-Derry and some of the new services they provide. You know, on top of being The Makeup Mecca of the North West now (as dubbed by me, but it seriously is I swear!).

How cute is this pick N mix from +Clarins ???

At +Benefit Cosmetics we were talked through their newest service in-store waxing! They have a pretty little set up of a private room (Benefit-ed out to the max, you'll even have your own Bene-towels and robes!). This is a great service for anyone on the go, you have a one stop shop - literally - for any necessary waxing, a quick facial, and a professionally applied makeup application all without stepping outside! Here for this! Right?

The Benefit ladies on hand to show us all their new products! So lovely!

Wax on, Wax off!

Hello again!
The staff on the night could not have been more welcoming or helpful, or generous come to that as we all received multiple gift bags with an array of goodies from the floor. Ranging from Gucci perfumes, Benefit makeup and skincare (the new eye-primer BB cream that I'll be sure to review on here soon!) Urban Decay eye-shadows and blush samples, Clairns skincare perfect plane sized too! Some sweet Origins skin mask and serum samples and a very sleek +Dolce & Gabbana wallet - perfect as a makeup pouch or as I plan to use it, as a wallet for my travel documents and passport when I fly to New York in a few weeks! All to name a few! It was like Christmas, as it was teamed up with a generous £50 voucher for the Beauty Hall - that I didn't have time to spend on the night but as it's local I'll be sure to be back - maybe close to my birthday next month to treat myself!

Such an education over at +Clinique UK !

Big +Origins fan so sampling their newest range is exciting! Love the pale pink too, very sweet.

Urban Decay Makeup Artist at work! <3

Derry already has so much to offer in terms of culture and history that it's wonderful to see from a local perspective, the investments continuing to be made by big companies such as the new addition of MAC and the expansion of already successful businesses such as +Debenhams that employ and empower so many.

+Benefit Cosmetics UK & Ireland goodies <3

We need a bigger backdrop! :o

So if you haven't already, you definitely should pop in, see the fab staff and treat yourself! There is literally so much to choose from, if you could have spent a day in there before, you could spend a week in there now!

Thanks for reading!

Clarins Instant Concealer Review - with added Irish Humour!

Hi guys!

I'm back with this little beauty of a find that I picked up over Christmas.

The Clarins Instant concealer.

Shame on me as I had no idea this was floating around since late 2013? And as a fan of +Clarins UK  that is a shame on me because I should have seen it, but missed it! Not anymore! Oh it's just so lovely you guys. It's very smooth and creamy though really a liquid application that offers medium coverage when set.
Now two of my faves from this brand together - Both in the shade 01!

Consistency is creamy and blends well against veins and blue skin colouring

See? No veins! Let's not comment on how pale the rest of me is compared to their palest shade shall we? So place I'm almost see through eeeek!!
My main under eye issue is that 'sunken' look you get some times from being dehydrated and sleep deprived and all the other things that life throws at you, not so much the blue/dark under circle issues but more the 'oh dear she's near death??' looks if I go without makeup because team that with the super pale skintone ... well it's a bit of a shock let's not lie! But I was really surprised by the transformation. Meaning, I actually had some blue tones that I just wasn't covering properly because the out come of this vs the others that don't tone that down?

Sort of stunningly different!

So, I loved the idea of trying this repeatedly and wore it all through out January just to see - as it promises not to crease and so far I haven't had an issue with creasing or drying out. Because of this I would wager that it's a good one for us dry-skin types or mature-lady skin types as well, as it won't sit in the fine lines around that area nor will it settle and do that awful 'crack' thing concealers with a decent coverage tend to do sometimes, you know? It's that the worst kind of crack?Minus-Craic as we say! (Craic, it's an Irish thing you're with me here right?) It also states that it promises to 'revive' tired eyes. As I've been unwell lately, I certainly have put that to the test, and honestly beyond the sniffles, no one even guessed so there you go!

Ps. Adopt the 'pat, pat, pat' way of applying this and it will go miles more on such little product as opposed to the swipe and rub motion!

My only con to this would be their shades are very, very limited. Which is a shame for my darker skinned ladies and just baffling to me, because everyone needs to be able to benefit from under eye goodness right?? Get on that Clarins!! :o

EXTREME CLOSE UP WAYNE'S WORLD STYLIE. But a well blended finish me thinks, even in super bight lighting and taken with my phone. Sorry HD cam is on the blitz :((

Instagram Indulging, January hauls & Upcoming Beauty Banter!

If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen a few updates from me this month. Including how I started off 2015 with a clean slate blog wise, I gave it a bit of a make under, stripping things back to basics. Back to my favored aesthetic of minimalist and negative space, leaving breathing room for more focus on my posts rather than my side projects! I hope you like it ;)

This month has also been a tad hectic in real life, but one that has left me with a bit of a obsession with my phone and that little photo app. Anyone else suffering from a ‘gram addiction? I never used to, in fact up until recently it was a sporadic occurrence for me to spend much time on Instagram at all, beyond the mandatory check in once a day. Lately though I’ve found myself loving it, finding the littlest things worth a heart or two, finding amazing new followers and a place for chit chat about my January #hauls!

Hashtag #Scaredtocheckmybankaccount??

I have officially put myself on a shopping ban though, until at least the end of next month. As realistically, there is nothing I really ‘need’ cosmetic or skincare wise that hasn’t been taken care of by Christmas gifts, or the sales. But the good news is I have a ton of new items available for reviews in the coming days. Including +AnastasiaBeverlyHills +Origins +MAC Cosmetics & more!

See my initial pics via my Instagram!!

Needless to say that’s enough right?

Is it ever enough? Is this where we fall into a consumerism crisis of conscience? As well as an over use of alliteration? Hm. Maybe!

I have been a fan of +Origins  for a couple of years now, but never really dived in to the brand the way I wanted to. I think I solved that with the purchase of their ‘mini’ set. A fantastic offer from +House of Fraser  Belfast that is allowing me to try out all their most popular goodies, without the commitment of a full size product. So far, I am loving them all, and I will have a more in-depth review coming soon. Also within my holiday haul was the new +Clarins UK Concealer, and while their shades are limited so far, being super pale sometimes pays off, as I fit their shade 1 almost perfectly. It’s a smooth application of liquid concealer, that even on the first and second application, the results are pretty great and it's something I want to review properly soon as well!

Also, after discovering my +BourjoisFrance addiction (there is no other name for it at this point let's be real) when I was organising my makeup the other day it was suggested via Instagram that I do a Brand Focus post. It was so inspiring to me because it really is a brand I have loved and championed for years now.So, that should be coming up so and I'm super excited about going in dept on one of my favourite high-street skincare and makeup  brands!
Oops??
I hope to see and hear from you all soon in the coming weeks, much more beauty banter to come well in to 2015

The Best of 2013 BBLOG Edition!

Hi all! I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and a great start to the New Year. 2013 was a complicated year for me (and I’m sure for many of you as well!) and I can’t lie I’m glad to see the back of it if I’m honest.

A little catch up as to why my blog has been so empty as of late, not so much excuses more legit reasons as to why I felt too burnt out by life to actually get excited about writing for myself again. I hope that 2014 changes that, starting now!

(Mini Mexican Wave!)

The year started off promising with a great internship that really helped me grow and develop my skills and it led to meeting some fab people and great opportunities. One of which was a ‘real’ job in a new somewhat unfamiliar industry, that seemed like a good idea at the time! Interspersed between the good there is also some of the bad, most notably, Cancer.

Yeah, that horrific little blighter that seems to cast a shadow on too many families lately. I had a double whammy as both my grandfather and father were diagnosed around the same time (the same week actually, a week after I started the new job, awesome timing life…), and so, 2013 was a year of battles in more ways than one.  A lot of juggling was done, and a lot of lessons were learned both personally and professionally. 2013 taught me that I need to start trusting my gut more, when it comes to people I meet, be it friends or relationships, jobs, opportunities, and doing what’s right for me and not being so overly worried about what people are going to think of me.

Because I realised, people are going to judge you and talk about you no matter what you do, no matter what choice you make or let be made for you, and I think it’s about time we stop giving a damn!

To quote the fine wine (or is that full of wine?) that is Johnny Depp -

“Just keep moving forward and don't give a shit about what anybody thinks. Do what you have to do, for you.”

So on that note!

Let’s move forward with 2014, cuddle in from the battering wind and storms outside and revel in the
Best of…2013 #bblog edition!

First up with skincare, like most women I chop and change my routine depending on my skin needs or, being honest, if something new and shiny just takes my fancy and I have to try it. But this year I think I’m managed to keep things to a bare minimum starting with two of my favourite moisturisers starting with the cult fave - Clarins -Beauty Flash Balm.

Most people know of this if they haven’t tried it for themselves yet but if you haven’t I suggest you do as I think it’s fantastic for keeping dull winter skin bright and toned and it’s amazing just before makeup it really aids to its longevity and keeps your skin fantastically refreshed in the process! Win, Win!

In the same category is the high street find from Oilatum. Their Natural Face Cream is amazingly soft and easy on dry, dull skin and really helps eliminate any tightness that can be caused when you are prone to drier skin in the colder months. This I use all year around really, and mostly every day as it’s super light in texture too and lasts all day.

As far as facial cleansers go I have two: Burt’s Bees SoapBark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream – really, really soft and gentle on the skin and removes the majority of any makeup or residue before you can go back in with a makeup cleanser to take off the rest. Purse friendly too as it’s in and around £10 I think.

The second is a cleanser that I have been somewhat obsessed by for some time now.

Pai Camellia & Rose Hydrating Cleansing Cream. This is a really great brand in my opinion and if you haven’t checked out their range you should get on that because it’s fab! This amazing cleansing cream is just love. It’s camellia and rose qualities are super gentle on the skin and is just bursting with all the things sensitive skin loves like  Omega 3 with Vitamins A, B & E as well. This purchase came with a exfoliating muslin cloth that allows you to gently remove the cleanser and everything it sweeps off your face in a skin friendly way that won’t cause too much harsh irritation.  If you don’t fancy the feel of the muslin in this instance any warm face cloth does the trick just fine, but I have to say I will be going back to the PAI brand in the future if this is any example of how great their line really is. This is definitely on the repurchase list for sure!

Ps. Side note but I’ve been singing the praises of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil forever and a day now, and it’s really my go-to for hair and skin SOS. For hair, especially hair that’s fine genetically and may be subjected to bleaching or dying and a lot of heated tools it works really well in restoring some of the life and moisturiser back into the follicles. You can get it from any good health food shop and it would be worth adding to the pamper routine if you’re looking for something new and skin friendly also!

Makeup faves I think I covered on here in these posts but feel free to go back and have a nosy! Featuring Bourjois, Origins, and Benefit can be found on the blog already!

For hair there have been two things I couldn’t live without this year and one is the trusted GHD range of hair straighteners. My last pair the originals lasted me SIX years, now if that isn’t an epic investment I don’t know what is. They gave out for the final time earlier this year and I just knew I wouldn’t last long without them so I treated myself to a pair of the Limited Edition Coloured GHD straightens. And they’re Piiink! A metallic hot purple-pink and it came with a GHD flat brush too, if you follow my instagram you'll have seen me fangirl over these when I got them recently. Needless to say I love them; they’re fantastic for straightening and curling so it’s an all in one with a million percent less hassle and less hair tools too. Love, love, love, and did I mention they’re pink!? :D

The next one was an impulse buy for me but it’s been a surprisingly great find all the same. The Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, it’s a tiny miracle for fine haired girls like moi. Just spraying some of this into damp hair after a wash, blow drying and then adding some curl, it really helps I think. It adds ‘something’ without adding weight, which is key for me as I find some leave in products just sit in the hair and weigh me down, and with fine hair that’s really the last thing anyone needs! Bounce and texture with very little work. Definitely will be buying again!!

I narrowed it waaay down for obvious reasons, but I hope that you’re still with me either here, on Twitter or on Tumblr and if you’d like to follow me on my Instragram feel free to join the nonsense there too! What have your favourites been in 2013? Anything already making the list in 2014?!

Clarins Paris : Vital Light Serum review!

Clarins Paris – Vital light Serum.

I was given a number of these tiny little sample size bottles from Clarins Paris via a friend of mine that works for them. I had bought something from their line and so I was able to get a few sneaky samples as a result. I had I would say about four of these little guys they sit at 10ML so all in all I’ve had a decent sized amount of product in which to try out in the 40ml. I’ve been using it since March and I have to say, I love it!
I haven’t had the best of luck where things like serums are concerned, having the most sensitive skin of anyone I know, I tend to just react badly to certain brands or certain consistencies within a brand and whatever I’m putting on my skin.

This however had zero negative effect on my skin what so ever, but did it have a positive one?

It really did.

I am always healthily skeptical when I hear of all these magical products that will prolong your this and zap your that. I just don’t buy it, but for the most part? This did what it said on the tin…er… box?
I found it really amazing to put on right after you’ve washed, and cleansed your face pre-moisturiser, pre-everything really. It gives your face a really light, non-greasy base and can in fact act as a moisturiser all on its own, it’s that hydrating.

What Clarins says :

Dark spot correcting, age repairing

Skin Type: Normal, Dry, Combination, Oily
Texture: Fluid

The powerful age repairing concentrate that restores deep luminosity with a targeted action on the dermis layer of the skin, while correcting dark, age spots.

Now since I’m a little young for age spots I think it’s safe to say they didn’t do much for those on me, since they don’t really exist yet (can we get an Amen?) But as far as luminosity, dark circles, and over all skin condition, it really does a great job. I am almost out of my little sample sizes but I will most definitely be purchasing the full size version of this once it runs out, it has become a staple in my makeup bag for sure!
30ML runs at £57.00 in the UK/Northern Ireland via http://www.clarins.co.uk
