July Favourites!

A little late on this one but I thought I’d share some of my most reached for items this month, including some oldies but goodies, and one art piece that I have just gotten around to hanging up!

First up two of my favourite ever items I’ve purchased from +AnastasiaBeverlyHills –Cream Contour Kit – I’ve had this for a while now and go through phases of wanting to have that real sculpted contoured look on my cheeks and brows, and then not using it again for absolutely ages.

But, because I’ve had a busy few weeks with social obligations, it’s been getting a lot of use for night-time looks especially.  Teaming it with the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Gleam Glow Kit – they really have narrowed down what I’m reaching for in just two palettes! My most used highlight from that kit would have to be Crushed Pearl for the cheeks as I am so pale the others don’t really show up well on my skin tone, and I use the others Hard Candy, Mimosa, Starburst more so on my eyes on top of a neutral shadow, as they really are super soft and blend-able, and add that extra bit of sparkle to the eyes without it becoming too over-powering.

I’ve been attempting to keep my skincare routine as simple as possible, and using this serum pre and post makeup has been one of my smarter moves this month. I have a whole post on the #SOND skincare items I received a while back, and this has been a must-have for me since. Really light on the skin while being really nourishing and soothing. Will absolutely be repurchasing

Two of my most reached for eye shadows this month have been from +Makeup Geek. My first time buying from MG in fact, and I fully intend on buying more to create my own palette, these shadows are amazing. They are just the softest, easily blended shadows I have tried in a really long time, add to that how long lasting they are – even without primer, and I am in love. I found mine on +BEAUTY BAY , opting for two soft wearable brown tones, Frappe and Crème Brulee. Fab shades for transition colour for a smoky eye, or alone as crease shades for added depth during a more minimal look. Really long lasting and soft. A+.

For mascara this month I found myself reaching for the +BourjoisFrance  Bourjois Volume Clubbing in Ultra Black. I found this to be a fantastic addition for the more humid days of summer, while not stated that it is water proof, I have had zero issues with bleeding mascara on hot days – thank god! But it does give you a dramatic, thick lash look that is fab alone or under some falsies for a night time look.

They look so similar in swatch form but on the eye the warmth of Frappe is a little less intense on the eye.

For hair this July, because of the heat and humidity (and rain, always with the rain it wouldn’t be an Irish Summer ™ without it lol) I’ve been attempting to keep things simple. To that end I’ve reached for another item I’ve had for absolutely ages, the Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist. A little pre-blow dry, and a little after before I swoop my hair into a high bun enables my hair to stay in place with a little life in it, and when I take it down the waves/ curls stay intact, so all I need is this and a little hairspray and we’re good to go. It’s super lightweight too, so even someone like me with really fine hair, it won’t bog it down too much or make it greasy with is a must have for me with products like this!

Until next time, Happy August!

Matte vs Radiance – Bourjois Edition.

Matte vs Radiance – +BourjoisUK  Edition.

Those of you that have been with me for a while know what a huge fan of the high-street brand Bourjois I am.

I have a Bourjois addiction, no joke.

Evidence!

So when they brought out these newly formulated foundations, I was so excited to try them. First up is the Bourjois Air Matte foundation – retailing for £9.99 in +Boots UK.

As I'm someone that has dehydrated/ dry skin most matte foundations are a serious no-no for me, for the simple reason that, well, no one has time for drying foundations sticking to any nooks or crannies, since we're sort of doing our best to make it look like there are no nooks nor no crannies! So with this I was a tiny bit skeptical, but wanted to try it out for myself anyway. Lo and behold, we might have a winner!

It's thick in consistency, and feels almost bouncy (that's a thing, right?) to apply, which were good things in my book because it meant one, that a little goes a long way so you aren't caking and layering on any more than necessary to get a full face of coverage, and two, well, it just felt really nice on application.

With the Air Mat I'm the shade 02 Vanilla - a little darker than my usual, but I found it worked well as this doesn't really oxidise any darker than it goes on. So, half way through your day you don't find that you have this un-matching neck situation, that sometimes happens to me with certain other high-street/drugstore brands (ahem shan't name any names...)

As for the dry skin situation, well their tagline for this is "Let's the skin breathe, light as air" and it does feel that way, at least for me. It's a lightweight formula once applied, I'd say really similar to their Healthy Mix Serum in consistency and as you'd expect, dries completely matte, but thankfully, not completely flat!

Light to medium coverage depending on your application process.

Lasting time -  Says 24 hours but I would say a solid 10 hours give or take, with no flaking or fading when used with a primer underneath.

B+!

The City Radiance collection (including a matching concealer that wasn't stocked in the boots I visited sadly) is the dewy cousin to the Air Mat foundation. It comes in six shades and is lighter in texture and thinner in consistency than the Mat , it gives a really light coverage, but really does leave behind that natural glow that they promise. Their tag for this is 'Skin Protecting Foundation, Brightening Effect' complete with SPF 30 (so perfect for daily wear when out and about, though less great for any photo-taking occasion). This also comes with a built in Anti pollution screen, radiance boosting pigments that promise a ' fresh and even complexion' so all in all built and named for anyone living the city life! Retailing for £9.99.

Does it do what it says on the tube?

Basically yes.

It's not a full coverage foundation by any means, but it does leave tired skin looking refreshed, and with a heavier concealer, any blemishes etc could be controlled if you're after a over-all light finish. This, I would say, would be a perfection foundation to use for one of those 'no makeup - makeup' days.

In this particular foundation I am 01 - Rose Ivory.

Light Coverage - Similar to that of a CC cream.
Lasting time - I clocked in at six hours before I noticed it had faded enough that I could have reapplied / refreshed the base. It wore evenly though, so thankfully no patches!

Beauty Sleep!

As someone who regularly battles with insomnia the video from +Bensons for Beds via +Marie Claire  was somewhat enlightening, and in equal measure, a little terrifying.

She says as she writes this blog post at basically 3am.

What is the point, I thought, suddenly, of faffing about with skincare and makeup to keep oneself fresh as a daisy, if the daisy is suffering massively because of my lack of sleep! Lack of sleep can be brought on by a number of things - stress, too much caffeine, uncomfortable bed, you name it there's probably something you're doing or thinking that's stopping you (and me, God, so me) from catching those much needed 40 winks!

Stress has got to be my number one, and 'eliminating stress' while often the gospel according to everyone ever, is, sadly, easier said than done. But, we try our best. We make our beds and bedrooms a fluffy, happy, serene place to snooze, we try and turn off the TV at a reasonable hour (laptops are harder, damn you internet!) we take hot baths, we attempt it all!

Even cutting down on our beloved caffeine, which, honestly, I'm going through withdrawals after a day and a half, I should be awarded sleep for my lack of diet coke, right?

Wrong, just a massive never ending headache unfortunately. So I cave. But, one tin a day won't kill me, right?

Well... that's another topic altogether! But definitely attempt to keep yourself as hydrated as possible, it really does help! Even if water can be sometimes just ugh,

But, back to the topic at hand... the test!

So, the video itself takes these women on day one after a proper night's sleep, and examine their skin in excruciating detail (brave, ladies, so brave!) and then, almost a week of under-sleeping if you will, they come back and do the same thing, and the results are compared.

It's a little scary how much change in a person's skin can appear in such a short period of time.

So to prepare for the battle once more, there are a few things that I've just been dying to try, just to see for myself if they could work for me.

First up is the gorgeous and sweet smelling Lavender Eye-Mask as rec'd by the lovely +Lisa Eldridge  via +BEAUTY BAY from The Holistic Silk eye mask.

Secondly we have the  This Works With Sleep Comes Beauty Hero Duo that I've heard nothing but amazing things about, and feel like, yeah, this might do something!

Besides, even if the spray fell flat, the primer has to be a plus, right?

As I normally do, if all else fails reach for my best eye cream (currently obsessed with the +Origins ginzing eye cream!) prep my skin the best I can and keep my makeup routine in the lanes of 'simple!' 'fresh!' 'wide eyed' and 'flushed' regions before going about my day.

My fresh-face-despite-three-hours-sleep go to is usually the following

+Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream - I have a tiny sample size of this and I can't wait to get a full size!

+BourjoisFrance CC Cream in the shade IVORY

My +AnastasiaBeverlyHills Brow Pomade, this item is so portable and I adore it for a defined brow. Though, for long distance travel I wager the pencil is probably your best best!

Finished off with a flush to the cheeks and lips with two subtle but uplifting shades of blush and lippie! With my +MAC Cosmetics creme blend blush in 'Unlimited' and their long-wear pro lip creme in 'overtime', that I'm almost out of and it's sold out! But they both do a great job of finishing p the fresh face attempts no matter how tired I am!

MAC 'unlimited'
What are some of your go-to items or tricks for when you can't get those much needed ZZs?!

Instagram Indulging, January hauls & Upcoming Beauty Banter!

If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen a few updates from me this month. Including how I started off 2015 with a clean slate blog wise, I gave it a bit of a make under, stripping things back to basics. Back to my favored aesthetic of minimalist and negative space, leaving breathing room for more focus on my posts rather than my side projects! I hope you like it ;)

This month has also been a tad hectic in real life, but one that has left me with a bit of a obsession with my phone and that little photo app. Anyone else suffering from a ‘gram addiction? I never used to, in fact up until recently it was a sporadic occurrence for me to spend much time on Instagram at all, beyond the mandatory check in once a day. Lately though I’ve found myself loving it, finding the littlest things worth a heart or two, finding amazing new followers and a place for chit chat about my January #hauls!

Hashtag #Scaredtocheckmybankaccount??

I have officially put myself on a shopping ban though, until at least the end of next month. As realistically, there is nothing I really ‘need’ cosmetic or skincare wise that hasn’t been taken care of by Christmas gifts, or the sales. But the good news is I have a ton of new items available for reviews in the coming days. Including +AnastasiaBeverlyHills +Origins +MAC Cosmetics & more!

See my initial pics via my Instagram!!

Needless to say that’s enough right?

Is it ever enough? Is this where we fall into a consumerism crisis of conscience? As well as an over use of alliteration? Hm. Maybe!

I have been a fan of +Origins  for a couple of years now, but never really dived in to the brand the way I wanted to. I think I solved that with the purchase of their ‘mini’ set. A fantastic offer from +House of Fraser  Belfast that is allowing me to try out all their most popular goodies, without the commitment of a full size product. So far, I am loving them all, and I will have a more in-depth review coming soon. Also within my holiday haul was the new +Clarins UK Concealer, and while their shades are limited so far, being super pale sometimes pays off, as I fit their shade 1 almost perfectly. It’s a smooth application of liquid concealer, that even on the first and second application, the results are pretty great and it's something I want to review properly soon as well!

Also, after discovering my +BourjoisFrance addiction (there is no other name for it at this point let's be real) when I was organising my makeup the other day it was suggested via Instagram that I do a Brand Focus post. It was so inspiring to me because it really is a brand I have loved and championed for years now.So, that should be coming up so and I'm super excited about going in dept on one of my favourite high-street skincare and makeup  brands!
Oops??
I hope to see and hear from you all soon in the coming weeks, much more beauty banter to come well in to 2015
